Nullewa Lake on Kadji Station (circa 1985)

This slide scan is a picture of Nullewa Lake on Kadji station, As is the case for most inland lakes in WA, Nullewa Lake is a salt lake.

The Kadji sheep station is located north east of Morawa.

At the time this picture was taken the sheep station was being run by the Broad family (Frank Broad).

Locals tended to refer to this at the Kadji Lake (or Kadji Kadji Lake), but its correct name is the Nullewa Lake.

The Koolanooka Hills are off to the right.

This is a scan of an old slide. One of the issues I have found with high-resolution scanning of old slides is that they tend have a magenta cast. While I have corrected this scan as best I could, there is still a slight hint of the magenta cast that can be seen in the white salt around the edge of the lake.

The old ‘new’ Kadji homestead was demolished sometime between 2015 and 2019.

The following clip from Google Earth shows the homestead was still standing in 2015. The homestead is on the right of the clip.

It is most likely that the homestead was demolished when Kadji station became part of the Karara Rangeland Park.

I call this the old ‘new’ Kadji Homestead because the original old ‘old’ Kadji Homestead is about ten kilometres to the west of the old ‘new’ homestead. I should say was about eight kilometres to the west because it fell down and has become invisible to anyone who did not know exactly were it used to be.

The Google Earth clip above shows the relative locations of the old and new homesteads.

The following Google Earth clip shows the exact location of the original or old ‘old’ Kadji Homestead.
