Old HMV poster discovered on back wall at P. H. Lodge & Sons
Following is a picture of an old “His Master’s Voice” (HMV) poster discovered on the back wall of the old part of the P. H. Lodge and Sons store in Morawa. The slide for this picture is marked March ‘85.
The above picture was taken on one of my many visits back to Morawa. Before the old P. H. Lodge & Sons general store was bulldozed (see this post) I managed to get into the old store. I came across this His Master’s Voice poster glued onto the corrugated iron that formed the back wall of the ‘old’ (almost, but not quite, original) part of the shop.
I had never seen this before.
It is unfortunate that the logo featuring Nipper the dog listening to a record playing on a Victor photograph is covered by part of the woodwork that was used for the renovations.
During the time I knew the shop (from about 1959 through to 1975) this old corrugated iron back wall, that formed part of the ‘old’ store, was hidden by a new fake wall that was put in front of it as part of a renovation. The T shaped woodwork you can see at in the bottom part of the picture was part of the framework that held the new wall that was put in front of the poster.
It did occur to me at the time to try and peel the poster off, but whatever the glue was that they used back then circa 1940s was holding it very solidly onto the custom orb corrugated tin even after 35 years.
The poster, of which the original was highly likely pained by hand, seems to be signed as either '“Wallconsins” or “Wall Consins”.
I did a Google search for HMV posters and for Wallconsins but I could not find any HMV posters that resemble this one from the back wall at P. H. Lodge & Sons.
