Geraldton's 'crystal' ball by the beach

On my recent visit back to Geraldton after 40+ years (see the last couple of posts) I took the almost obligatory picture of Geraldton’s ‘crystal’ ball by the beach.

Most pictures you see of this feature a sunset, but I am not into sunsets in the least, plus, it was heavily overcast for the 2.5 days I was in Geraldton. So, my photograph just has an upside down palm tree featured.

I did notice that, for whatever reason (bending of light rays?) the colours in the the ‘crystal’ ball are shifted towards blue. Interesting. Not too sure why this happens. Maybe there is a light blue tint in the glass?

I seriously doubt this ball is made of any kind of crystal. I supposed it is not impossible—that might even be the cause of the colour shift. But I consider it to be highly unlikely this ball is some kind of crystal.

And, at least I remembered to align the horizons, which, apparently, with this kind of picture, gives the best effect. Who knows? Maybe . . . . not really in my area of photographic expertise.
