How To Have a Great Idea

I found this over at thisisnthappiness.

GreatIdea

This is sort of a 2011 variation on the well known saying attributed to Thomas Edison, the inventor of the light bulb, that genius is 99 percent perspiration and 1 percent inspiration.

I guess what this 2011 update by Christoph Niemann is telling us is that genius is:

  • 87 percent perspiration,
  • 7.5 percent luck,
  • 0.5 percent inspiration, and
  • 5 percent staying off the inspiration destroying, attention diverting, time absorbing, mind numbing, head banging, depression inducing, frigging Internet.

Not long ago I listened to a very interesting videocast either from Big Ideas at the ABC site or at TED that gave a convincing argument that the Internet is actually dumbing-down most of us rather than making us smarter. I must find that videocast and do a posting about it. They convinced me.

For those that have not come across it the thisisnthappiness site is a picture blog of very different and thought provoking pictures. The picture above links to the site. Don’t forget to use Ctrl+Click to open it in a ne Tab (or Shift+Clcik if you use the Opera browser).

Following is another example from thisisnthappiness.

Talentless

I have sure come across a few people in the IT industry in the last 10 years or so that this relates to.
