500 Pixels—Too Good for Me

A while ago I discovered the 500 pixels site. At first I was enthusiastic and figured I would post some of my stuff up there—which I did. But I think I am outclassed by much of the work that gets posted to this site.

Just check these few examples out.

This first one was taken in Yosemite National Park in the USA, which is one of about three places on the planet I would seriously like to visit one day. But the probability of that happening is about 0.01.

The picture was taken by Darvin Atkeson using a Nikon D300 half-frame DSLR and its point score at the time I took the screen grab was 96.8.

This next one does not have much information provided about it but its score at the time of the screen grab was 93.6.

It was taken by Giuseppe Peppoloni using a Canon EOS 60D half-frame DSLR.

The following stunning black and white shot had a score of 91.7 when I did the grab. Obviously the picture was taken in full colour and then made into a black and white image in post processing. It has worked out very well.

It was taken by Alexander Titov and he doesn’t tell us what camera he was using. I suspect this shot was taken before he had completed the set up because the strobe is in frame and there is power cabling in frame. I figure he was getting set up and spotted the model sitting there waiting for him to get everything ready and he just pushed the button. What a great picture.

I know I said a ‘few’, which is basically three, but I am going to slip a fourth picture in. I can do this because I write the posts Smile

This shot has a current score of 85.9.

The picture was taken by Maurizio Fontana also using a Nikon D300 and it is of Horseshoe Bend on the Colorado River. Horseshoe bend even has an entry in Wikipedia (here) and it seems that it is in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area near the town of Page in Arizona.

Each of the above pictures links to the picture within the 500 pixels site, or at least it did when I posted them. I am not sure if the links change as the pictures age or not. If you like a picture I recommend you link over to it in 500 pixels and see it ‘full size’.

I have tried posting a few pictures up into 500 pixels and I am not going to tell you what scores I got—but maybe that is just because I have no friends on 500 pixels to go in and give me some votes.
