The average cost of a wedding in the USA in 2009 was US$20,000 (about $22,000 Australian). Interestingly the average cost in 2007 was US$28,732. The 30 percent drop in the cost of the average wedding from 2007 to 2009 probably has a lot to do with the impact of the global financial crisis.

A few other interesting statistics relating to marriage in the USA in 2009 are:

  • A total of US$48.9 billion was spent on weddings for the year.
  • The average price of the engagement ring was US$3,186 (but this is not included in the average wedding cost calculation).
  • The average number of guests was 128.
