The Oatmeal: Using Semicolons and Other Important Stuff
It you find you have 30 minutes or so to fill in one day then you might want to consider having a look at The Oatmeal site.
This site—presumably intended to add a little extra fibre to your day (sorry, couldn't resist that)—contains humorous insights, in comic strip form, into some very important subjects. The following panel shows a small sample of the subject material covered.
Use Ctrl+Click on the above image to open The Oatmeal web site in a new Tab. Ctrl+Click on any of the following images will also open the relative link in a new Tab. Oh—before cdk_101 posts a comment about it—users of the Opera browse have to use Shift+Click (why, oh why, did Opera have to be different?).
I recommend the abbreviated instructions on "How to Use a Semicolon". Anyone into writing and syntax will find this humorous.
The opening statement on how to use a semicolon sets the scene: "Using a semicolon isn't hard; I once saw a party gorilla do it". And right there we see a semicolon being used.
The instructions on using semicolons then move into more serious territory and somehow manage to get grizzly bears and dinosaurs involved.
Seriously cute neice (SCN) especially liked The Oatmeal breakdown of the Twilight "girls love vampires" formula.
For anyone not up with this the Twilight series of books about mortal teenage girls falling hopelessly and totally in love with immortal vampires is really big at the moment; even to the point that the books are being made into movies and there are a number of look-alike TV series based on the theme.
