Web Searching—The First Three Pages

SeachingAccording to research by Jupiter Research 90 percent of people only check as far as the first three pages returned by a Web search engine such as Google or Bing. If they don’t find what they were looking for in the first three pages then they will either rephrase the search and try again, or will just give up and move on to doing something else.

I am thinking this could be a significant contributing reason as to why I am not getting very many unique visitors. It is because almost nobody is coming to my site as a result of Google or Bing searches. As a test I entered in some of the more interesting searches relating to some of my December 2010 and January 2011 postings. But first, just to make sure Google is still indexing me, I put in a fairly unique literal-based search to ensure my site\ was found by Google. I used the search phase shown below.

GSearch

With such a highly targeted search I got just two hits of which Abalook was the second hit.

GSearch2

So that proves then that Google is still indexing me.

Now to do some ‘normal’ searches and see if Abalook makes it into the first three pages.

The following table shows the results of my tests.

So out of 23 fairly average sort of searches only one of them pulled my site up in the first three pages of results.

All I have to do now is work out how to get my site coming up in the first three pages of the search results. Any ideas?
