Titbit: Nokia Still Number 1
Based on IDC’s latest cell phone sales statistics for 2010 Nokia is still far and away the number seller of mobile (cell) phones in the world. Samsung are second, LG third, ZTE fourth, and Apple fifth.
Who the Sam Hill are ZTE you might ask. I did. According to Wikipedia ZTE are the Zhong Xing Telecommunication Equipment Company Limited which is a Chinese corporation established in 1985. ZTE trades in 140 countries and includes Vodaphone and Telstra in Australia for whom they make ‘home branded’ mobile phones.
I can only assume that one of the reasons ZTE have made it into fourth place with 51.8 million mobile phone sales in 2010 is that they sell a huge number of mobile phones within China; but I could be wrong.
I have noticed that when I use my Telstra 3G dongle the software that connects it up has ZTE front and centre on the splash screen. Now I know why.
