Trillian from H2G2: Zooey Deschanel
Fans of the book, TV series, and movie ‘Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy’ (often abbreviated to H2G2) will not need me to provide any explanatory text about who Trillian is. Trillian is the name taken by the fictional character Tracey McMillan when she joins the amazing Space Ship Heart of Gold (S.S. Heart of Gold) in the movie version of H2G2. Trillian was played by the actress Zooey Deschanel, who happens to be the younger sister of Emily Deschanel—who plays ‘Bones’ in the TV series of the same name.
I confess that I absolutely adored Zooey Deschanel as Trillian in H2G2. She plays the part of Trillian perfectly. I have watched the H2G2 DVD at least ten times, and would watch it more if it were not damaged [makes mental note to self to see if H2G2 is in the discount box at JB Hi Fi].
My two most favourite characters in H2G2 are Trillian and Marvin (the highly intelligent—brain the size of a planet—depressed robot). One of my computers is called Marvin and I am about to build up another one; that will be called Trillian—and I might even stick a picture of Zooey on the side of the case.
So, why, out-of-the-blue, am I posting about Zooey Deschanel? Zooey was recently featured on the cover of the Sunday Times Magazine (STM). It seems she is in a new movie about to be released called “(500) Days of Summer”.
Seeing Zooey on the cover of STM reminded me of her and I decided to Bing her (using Microsoft’s new Bing search engine). I did my search as a literal using “Zooey Deschanel”, so the search engine would only find Web sites with the correct full name. Over 90,000 Web pages were returned by Bing. It seems Zooey is a lot more popular than I thought. There are even fan sites dedicated to Zooey, including at least one in Australia; the Z. Deschanel site.
As it happens, and this came a surprise to me, Zooey is also into singing and has released a CD titled “She & Him—Volume 1”. My understanding is that all songs were written by Zooey. If you are the slightest bit interested you can hear some of the tracks from Volume 1 here [if you are using IE7, IE8, or FireFox use Ctrl+Click to open link a new Tab].
Okay. I think that is it for my blog entry on Trillian/Zooey Deschanel.
I hope this has not put you off coming to my blog, but I do want to cover all kinds of subject material—things that come to me as I go through each week and day.
Barry.
