52Photos: Wk02—Pumphreys Bridge

Here is my second photograph in my challenge to post a photograph each week. This is a photograph of the old Pumphreys Bridge.

As is my general practice, this shot was taken 2/3rds of stop under the meter reading in order to make the colours look a bit more saturated. However, even with the exposure set 2/3rds of a stop under the reading the clouds have still suffered from being somewhat washed out.

As can be seen in the clip from Goole Earth, Pumphreys Bridge can be found along Pumphreys Road south east of Wandering. Camping is allowed at Pumphreys Bridge and there are a number of camping areas in the nature reserve along the river and near the old bridge. There are at least two reasonably new-ish toilet blocks that I spotted when I was there taking my shots.

There is also an unused cricket pitch.

My picture, above, was taken just after Christmas 2023 and, as you can see, despite a very dry December at the end of 2023 there is still a useful amount of water in the river.

I then decided to find out the name of this river. I traced the river as far as I could to the east using Goole Earth and Google Maps. But doing this did not reveal to me the name of the river. So I then traced it to the west and after crossing Albany Highway I finally found a mention of the Murray River.

If this is the Murray River then that is the river at Lane Poole Reserve out of Dwellingup.

You can find out more information about Pumphreys Bridge including camping details here.
