Upgraded to SquareSpace 7.1

You sort of have to do these updates sooner or later because eventually the platform you are using—in this case SquareSpace—will stop ‘supporting’ the older version. Hence, I have today upgraded my entire site from SquareSpace 7.0 to 7.1.

I surely hope this was not a bad thing to do. It is actually scary doing these major upgrades, and going from 7.0 to 7.1 is a big change.

While the idea is that not too much should change from the reader’s point-of-view there are a lot of things that have changed for me when I create posts. A lot of things. It is going to take me a little while to get used to the new interface and where things have been moved to.

I have checked back through about ten posts in the Main Blog that I just chose randomly looking for things that don’t look right. Some of the styles, formatting, and fonts got changed but I think I have found most of the issues and fixed them up. I mainly had to reset or re-define paragraph styles.

At this stage I have not checked what might have happened to any of the posts in the “Old Blog”.

With SquareSpace 7.1 there is no longer a “Like” button. Not that anyone ever used it before anyway.

Also with 7.1 there is no search option on the title bar. To do a search now you need to go the page Index/Search. The search option is there.

Something that I can do now that was not possible before without using one of the preset styles is change the colour of the text. It is a bit clunky but it works. There are also now four pre-defined Headline styles (there were previous ‘only’ three) and, for the first time, three paragraph styles that can be defined.

In theory those people that access the site from mobile devices should now get a better layout and view. But honestly, due to the careful way I set my pages up in the first place, I don’t think anyone is actually going to notice any differences.

However, if you come across something that isn’t working like it used to or where the formatting has been ‘destroyed’ then please let me know in a comment so I can hunt it down and see if I can fix it.

Thanks, Barry.
