Tag = Morawa

I plan to start posting a number of articles and pictures relating to my home town of Morawa in Western Australia.

In order to make it easier for anyone who would want to read these articles I have introduced a tag of ‘Morawa’. To see all such tagged postings simply select the option “Tag = Morawa” from the main menu. This menu option will then automatically bring up all postings in this blog that have been tagged by me with ‘Morawa’.

What will these Morawa postings contain?

I grew up in Morawa.

My parents lived in Morawa most of there adult life and had three children there.

My father’s father and his wife came from Yorkshire in the U.K. and ended up buying a general store in Morawa.

Now that I am approaching 70 years of age I want to publish as much information as I can recall about Morawa. Stories passed on to me by my father, my uncle, and my brother.

Along with these stories I will include photographs and other images—in those cases where I have them or if I can find something on the Web that is related.

Quality of photographs

I am a serious photographer with some 50 years of experience. The photographer in me feels the need to make some notes about the quality of the photographs and images that will accompany many of my “Tag - Morawa” posts.

As any photographers reading this will know, the best picture scans are made by scanning the negative (or the slide). However, sadly, way back then, people didn’t put much value in negatives. To the best of my knowledge none of the negatives are available for any of the black and white photographs in our old family albums. Hence, it then becomes necessary to scan the prints because there are no negatives. This always results in a severely sub-optimal result. Basically there is negligible bit-depth available from a scan of a print.

Due to the above, despite my best attempts using Photoshop to try and improve many of the pictures, many of the photographs published as part of this project will be of low quality.

Posting Order

I would like to be able to tell you I have worked out some really clever logical posting order for the Morawa focussed posts. But I haven’t. Basically, as I either think of a new Morawa story to tell or find a new interesting photograph to post will determine the order of the posts.
