P. H. Lodge & Sons general store in Morawa circa late 1940s

The following picture is of the P. H. Lodge & Sons general store in Morawa circa the late 1940s—as best that I can work out. In this picture the shop has the double-glass bay windows fitted and the ‘feature’ veranda has been added.

At the time, P. H. Lodge and Sons sold just about anything you can think of including saddles, tractors, insurance, petrol (note the pump-up bowser on the right), kerosene, drapery, groceries, hardware, pharmaceuticals, firearms and ammunition, newspapers and magazines, books, home and farm insurance, motor vehicles, tyres, motor oils, etc, etc.

At this time the petrol pump is a single pump at it is located next to the shop. Around 1955 (as best I can work out) this bowser was changed to a double pump dispensing standard and super petrol, and it was located next to the road rather than close to the store. At about the same time the driveway at the front of the shop was bituminised.

The following picture is the picture above, but I have tried to clean it up a bit and bring out more detail. Which is very hard to do when the image you are working from is a scan from a photograph.
