Wallpaper I made from 'Lady in Red' picture from Reddit
Going through the popular posts on Reddit this afternoon I came across this image of a “Lady in Red” who is apparently called Anastasia. Should you want to check the actual Reddit post then you will find it here.
I found this picture very pleasing. Loved the library in the background, and I am sure it is not a backdrop. I know that backdrops these days are very good, but I really do think that is actually a library in the background.
Also the lighting and her pose are just so good. I love the solid red matching lipstick.
So I decided to make a wallpaper of this picture for my PC. Now, obviously, the aspect ratio is not right, so I first has to crop it to 16:9—which means a lot of the bottom of the picture had to be cropped out.
The other issue is that with wallpapers, as a general rule, you need to leave ‘space’ on the left hand side for desktop shortcut icons. This is one of the rules of making wallpapers. Complying with this rule required me to flip the picture horizontally.
Following is the cropped, upsampled, 2560x1440 16:9 finished wallpaper.
To get the full size (2560x1440) image on a Windows-based PC:
Click on the image to open a larger size in a new browser tab.
Get the URL of the image by right-clicking on the picture and selecting “Copy image address”
Paste the URL into the address line of the browser. At the end of the URL is the statement “format=nnnnw” where nnnn will be a number. Replace that number with 2560 and hit enter.
This will then open the full width 2560x1440 version of the image which you can then save with a file name you know that can then later be used as a wallpaper.
Following is how the wallpaper looks on my PC complete with desktop icons on the left and the taskbar at the bottom.
